For Melbourne’s Youth it’s time to RISE!
Hundreds of young people gathered at Mount St Joseph College in Altona to “Dare to Dream” on Saturday 17 March. They were coming together for the first-ever Rise Melbourne Youth Festival to celebrate the young heart of the church with talks, workshops, music, fun and inspiration. The day commenced with music from the Gen Bryant Band and an inspiring talk from Pat Keady. Following the morning plenary, a huge range of workshops were on offer from a variety of presenters, including Kathryn Kinglsey MGL, Therese Nichols, Shaphan Williams, Mark Clarke, Sam Clear and Fr Dean Mathieson OFM Cap among others.
After workshops, the Festival kicked into full swing with a variety of activities on offer. There was an open mic outdoor stage, a mission expo featuring 30 stalls, a women’s hub, a men’s hub, inflatable games, a blessed sacrament chapel and a variety of food trucks to enjoy. In the afternoon there was an opportunity to gather and be energised by Planetshakers and Sister Anastasia OP before celebrating Mass with Bishop Mark Edwards OMI.
Following a dinner break, hundreds gathered one last time to hear Chris Lee’s powerful testimony and to unite for a night rally with Adoration, Reconciliation opportunities and prayer. The first Rise Festival gave young people a genuine opportunity to express and explore their Catholic faith with other young people in Melbourne. With such a powerful witness, we hope this opportunity can continue to provide a reinforcing experience for all and build a strong foundation in faith.
