Reflecting on Timeless
“I made amazing new friends, I learnt heaps about my faith
and all the sessions brought me closer so much closer to God.” That was the
rapt response of one of 30 young people from year seven and eight who took part
in “Timeless” the first Archdiocesan youth camp in Melbourne.
The “Timeless” school holiday youth camp was an opportunity
for young people from all over the Archdiocese to get away from the hustle and
bustle of daily life and give time to God and each other. In a few fun-filled
days campers were invited to consider the wonder of our timeless God crashing
into the normal, everyday here and now as they journeyed through the liturgical
Starting in Advent and ending in Ordinary time campers
unpacked the significance of each liturgical season, and how we are invited to
respond in our daily life. Within small groups lead by members of the Melbourne
National Evangelisation Team, campers had the opportunity to participate in
Mass, Reconciliation, and Adoration.
And it wouldn’t have been a complete school-holiday camp
experience without campers trying their hand at archery, experiencing the
thrill of the flying fox, having the adrenaline rush of the giant swing, and
late-night laugh sessions with new friends.
Many of the campers’ parents and family members joined the
“Timeless” gang for the final Mass together before campers headed home
exhausted but looking forward to participating in the youth camp again in 2016.
The AOY looks forward to running another Youth Camp in the September school holidays of 2016!
