Youth leaders take time to retreat
In July, Youth ministry leaders from the Melbourne Archdiocese gathered for a weekend of retreat, at the Salesian Retreat Centre in Lysterfield. The leaders from sixteen different parishes and communities across Melbourne were led by Fr Dean Mathieson from the Capuchin Fransiscan Friars, who guided them through an introduction to Fransiscan spirituality. Through talks, silence, and a time of adoration, the leaders reflected on how St Francis’ love of the poor, trust in God’s mercy and desire to evangelise is mirrored in the leadership of Pope Francis.
The annual retreat for youth ministry leaders is hosted by the Archdiocesan Office for Youth to help youth ministry leaders deepen in their personal faith, and to be encouraged by meeting others engaged in ministry with young people. For many leaders who volunteer in their youth ministry alongside busy work and study commitments, the weekend is also an opportunity for rest and reflection.
