Support for victims
Victims of child abuse who wish to participate in the Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry into the Handling of Child Abuse by Religious and Other Organisations can request support through the
Victims Support Agency
(VSA). The VSA is funded by the Victorian Government.
The VSA funds a network of Victim Assistance and Counselling Programs (VACPs) throughout metropolitan and regional Victoria.
Victims of crime are assigned a case manager and are eligible to receive practical assistance, outreach, court support, and referral to other agencies.
To support victims participating in the Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry, the VACPs can:
Provide support in preparing a submission
Provide support for victims preparing for and attending a public hearing
Link people to support groups and locate services such as private solicitors or legal aid.
The VACPs can also refer eligible victims to therapeutic interventions including counselling.
