St Francis Xavier & St Clare

Catholic Parish of Greater Box Hill | In the Franciscan tradition

Collectors and Counters

Do you wonder what happens to the money you put into the collection basket each Sunday?
At each weekend Mass, in both St. Francis Xavier and St. Clare’s churches, volunteers take up two collections. The proceeds of the first collection pay for the running costs and expenses of the Parish.  The proceeds of the second collection pay for the living expenses of our Priests and the running costs of the Presbytery.
In addition, throughout the year we have approximately 8 (eight) special collections that take place on specific Sundays nominated by the Archdiocese of Melbourne, eg.  CatholicCare, Catholic Mission, Chaplaincy Sunday, etc.  In this Parish these are taken up as a Leaving Collection at the conclusion of Mass.
All monies collected at weekend Masses are counted by a dedicated team of volunteers. There are no holidays for Collectors and Counters – their roles are 52 weeks a year, every year. An injection of fresh, young blood is urgently needed to relieve the pressure on these faith-filled parishioners.
Can you help?  If you are looking for a way to become involved in supporting your parish on a voluntary basis, this is a great way to start.  There are no age barriers! No experience necessary, just a willingness to assist in this important ministry. Please contact the Parish Office to register your interest.
